Join AVISTA in embracing International Polar Bear Day!

Today is International Polar Bear Day, an annual event to raise awareness about the impact of global warming and reduced sea ice on polar bear populations.

According to WWF, there are around 22,000 polar bears left in the world and they are listed as a vulnerable species. Scientists have estimated that two thirds of the polar bear population could become extinct by 2050 based on conservative forecasts about the future extent of the sea ice.

Climate change has been a pressing concern of our time. The rapidly melting glacier and raising sea levels due to global warming have put polar bear at risk by the loss of Arctic sea ice they depend on. Polar bears are at the top of the food chain and have an important role in the overall health of the marine environment. It could start a chain reaction that will be harder to turn around if polar bears go extinct. By uniting and taking actions to protect polar bear families, we can help protect the entire Arctic ecosystem, which in turn impacts people around the world.

Together, we can help to secure a future for our lovely polar bears. Please join us in taking the below climate actions now!
