There is growing demand on corporate governance in the global capital markets. A proper corporate governance is often viewed as a way to monitor and balance interests among different stakeholders. Listed companies in Hong Kong are required to follow the Corporate Governance Code to enhance transparency. The Corporate Governance Code sets out the principles of good corporate governance, and two levels of recommendations: (a) code provisions; and (b) recommended best practices. All listed companies in Hong Kong must state whether they have complied with the code provisions in their interim reports and annual reports, deviate from the code provisions must be explained with considered reasons.
